Preparing for Your Portrait Experience

You did it - you’re booked for a session! Now you might be thinking, what did I get myself into? There’s a lot that goes into a portrait experience and it can seem overwhelming. Here’s a guide to help you when prepping for your shoot - you can leave the rest up to us!

The Week Leading Up to Your Session

SKIN: Drink plenty of water the entire week leading up to our shoot. This will keep your skin looking great for the camera.

For your session we do not recommend a spray tan if you haven’t had one done before as it will affect how your skin tone will photograph. You should also stay out of the sun to avoid any burns before your session!

HAIR and EYEBROWS: Schedule an appointment for your favorite salon to touchup your hair cut and color. Have your eyebrows shaped and colored - if that’s your thing – it will make you feel like a supermodel during your session!

HANDS AND FEET: If you normally do your nails, get a manicure and pedicure a day or two before your session (or DIY at home). Your hands and feet will show in many of your images and we don’t want chipped polish!

OUTFITS: Try on all outfits you plan to bring to make sure everything looks good and fits perfectly. Remove any tags that can’t be hidden or loose strings.

The Night Before Your Session

Pack up what you plan to bring. Feel free to wear comfortable clothes to the studio and change here before the session.

Unless you prefer to wash your hair the morning of you session, wash your hair the night before, and prepare it just as you might normally, but limit the amount of hair product.

Moisturize body, face, neck, hands and lips so that they look great on camera tomorrow.

Limit alcohol to avoid puffy eyes and please and get plenty of sleep. A good night’s sleep will ensure you are refreshed for your photoshoot.

The Day of Your Session

Please come to the studio with a clean, moisturized face (no makeup) and dry hair. It’s always helpful to do a light exfoliation on your face, even just with a washcloth. Let the makeup artist know if you have any sensitivities, and feel free to bring some inspiration photos for your makeup look.

Use clear deodorant & moisturize your body.

Have a good meal before you leave the house. Give yourself enough time to get to your session promptly.

Appointment Times and Reschedules

Please arrive on time for your appointment; if you arrive early, we may still be with another client. Late arrival may be deducted from your session time.

Hair and makeup will take approximately 90 minutes so come prepared to be pampered for a while! Your session itself will take approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours.

The deposit for your session is non-refundable and there is a $100 rescheduling fee for full portrait sessions; please allow a minimum of 10 days’ notice for rescheduling.
